1st Year Medicine – Anatomy Flashcards (KCL) and Tips for Summatives

Written by:

Hi! I’ve made my Anatomy notes for first year into Notion “flashcards” and they’re all below for completely free – just click the headings. The only big topic not covered is cardiorespiratory (but TeachMeAnatomy’s Thorax section is perfect).

They were made with some info from the KEATS lectures, but mainly used TeachMeAnatomy and various anatomy youtubers. This should test (or teach) you everything you need to know for the anatomy component of PAS, including those one or two embryology lectures.

My advice for using these is to learn the info first for relevant subsections using youtube videos and websites, then make a copy of each page and start testing yourself. You can easily colour code in notion (red, yellow, green) and use this as your basis for revision. Alternatively, you can convert them into Anki flashcards 🙂

i) I can’t promise this covers absolutely everything you need to get 100% in the Finals, but it will give you a very good overview and was pretty much the only resource I used to get 73/100 (with the pass mark being 42). For example, there’s pretty much nothing on the micro-anatomy/histology bits as I didn’t really watch those lectures and they’re exceptionally unlikely to be tested.

ii) I can’t promise there are zero mistakes – let me know if there are in the comments and I’ll fix them up.

💪 Upper Limb Anatomy

Top Tips: Learn how to draw the brachial plexus – you probably won’t need all of its detail but its helpful to know what roots an “upper plexus injury” would refer to. Also learn the dermatomes/myotomes and corresponding nerves well.

🦵 Lower Limb Anatomy

Top Tips: Although there’s quite a bit more, lower limb is tested quite a bit less than upper limb. Don’t stress about learning all the -tomes for this or the intricate structure of the knee joint. Just be prepared for questions about what the ACL does, for example 😉

🥑 Abdominopelvic Anatomy

Top Tips: Learning the blood supply isn’t too hard. Just youtube celiac trunk and mesenteric arteries. Apart from that, just try learning basic relations of organs.

🤰Vertebral Column and Embryology (the miscellaneous lectures)

Top Tips: Don’t stress if you don’t understand the renal embryology lectures. To be honest, I wouldn’t stress about the miscellaneous stuff and embryology at all. Focus on the stuff above first, then maybe do the “Eggs to Embryo” lecture or whatever it’s called.
